Who We Are

Lorne Forsyth became Chairman of Elliott & Thompson at the beginning of 2009 and is responsible for the strategic development of the company. He commenced his career in the retail sector before undertaking an MBA at INSEAD. He joined Schroders corporate finance division in 1985 before moving to Morgan Grenfell (subsequently acquired by Deutsche Bank) where he developed expertise in the automotive and engineering industries, becoming head of the automotive sector practice in corporate finance. In 1997 he moved to HSBC as global head of the automotive and engineering sectors. In 2003 he joined Barchester, the strategic and corporate finance advisory group, where he was a partner and director until 2010. During his career he has been involved in advising a number of prominent multinational companies and has also worked with a selection of private equity firms and privately owned unlisted companies.

 

 

Olivia Bays joined Elliott & Thompson as Publisher in January 2011. She read English at Downing College, Cambridge, before starting out in publishing at Profile and Walker Books. Her extensive editorial experience includes legal books and journals (for OUP and Kluwer) and starting up a public-facing magazine for the Commission for Racial Equality. Prior to joining Elliott & Thompson she was a commissioning editor at co-edition packager Elwin Street Publications, developing non-fiction titles for international publishers such as HarperCollins, Virgin, Wiley and A&C Black, as well as a freelance editor for clients including the Trades Union Congress. She has worked with a wide variety of organisations and bestselling authors to create books on a diverse range of subjects – from Global Radio to the Royal Geographical Society and Imperial College.

    

Pippa Crane studied History at the University of Warwick. She started her publishing career at co-edition packager Elwin Street Productions in 2006, becoming managing editor in 2012, where she was responsible for the production of a wide variety of illustrated non-fiction titles for the international market, including publishing partners such as Bloomsbury and Princeton University Press. She joined Elliott & Thompson as senior editor in May 2013.
   
 
Alison Menzies is a publicist with over 20 years experience at the forefront of the publishing industry. She began representing the Elliott & Thompson list in September 2011. An art history graduate, her publishing career began in editorial at Random House, before moving to their publicity department (for Jonathan Cape). This was followed by stints at Macmillan as head of publicity for Picador, and at Little, Brown as director of publicity. Since 2004, she has worked on individual projects and provided support for publishers and PR agencies across the board. Corporate clients have included Pan Macmillan, Palgrave Macmillan, Penguin, Hodder General Books, HarperCollins, FMcM Associates, Oberon Books, Sort Of Books, Chrome Audio and the Laugharne Weekend.
 
 
Thomas Ogilvie studied Physics at the University of Edinburgh, before joining the newly-opened Mainstreet Trading Company bookshop in the Scottish Borders in 2008. He helped it to win Children’s Independent Bookseller of the Year in 2010, Best Bookshop at the Telegraph Small Shops Awards 2012 and Independent Bookseller of the Year in 2012. He was personally shortlisted for Young Bookseller of the Year in 2012.  He joined Elliott & Thompson in March 2013 as a Sales Assistant.
